Lostock 6 - 28th February
A plethora of Swinton runners turned out at Lostock for the first race of the Central Lancs Grand Prix – 22 of us!
A cold, dull day but nowhere near as bad as the wind and rain that had been forecast. The race began up a hill, then flattened out for a few miles but the killer hill came at about 4 miles in – wouldn‟t be a favourite for Monday hill reps! Not a terribly eventful race but wonderful that so many Swinton run-ners competed – great camaraderie!
Steve Doxey was our first finisher in 30th place (37:11), closely followed by Mark in 34th place (37:42). They had both raced in the National Cross Country the previous day, as had Rick – barmy? Paul finished in a stunning 39:05 – definitely back in great form. A brilliant Swinton debut (41:11) for Darren Russell – let‟s hope we see him racing for our club again soon. Our other male runners were: Chris, Rick, Jon, Adam, Pete, Steve H and Andy S – awesome running guys!
As well as our men‟s team, the ladies were out in force – 11 competitors! Wow – that has to be a re-cord. Lisa‟s delight with her PB (53:44) was amazing to see. I‟m sure she‟s still smiling about it now! Charlie made her Swinton debut (54:27) and is keen to race again soon. The rest of the female team were: Me, Louise, Rebecca, Sarah, Lesley, Dawn, Jean, Carol and Claire. A huge WELL DONE to all.
It was very kind of Paul Shier to offer to marshal and photograph the event for Swinton. Cheers Paul! Carl‟s support was also appreciated. In addition, it was good to see our friends Andy and Michelle Coates marshalling and taking photos on the course. Thanks for your shouts of encouragement.
All in all, a truly fantastic start to the Grand Prix. Let‟s aim to field even more runners in the forth-coming races.
